This new 7th edition of Bradt´s Cape Verde (Cabo Verde) has been fully revised and updated and remains the only comprehensive English-language guidebook available to the islands of this alluring Atlantic archipelago, described by some as Africa light´. The guide includes well-researched history and cultural sections, with a particularly strong section on music, and brings an honest approach to reporting the fragile balance between tourist development and protecting the environment. This new edition reflects the many changes since the previous one, including the introduction of charter flights from the UK to Sal and the first casino-hotel on Sal, as well as providing full information on how to make the most of the less developed islands away from the main tourist hotspots. Stable and peaceful, quietly isolated by its mid-Atlantic location, Cape Verde continues to grow economically and to develop its tourist infrastructure at a leisurely pace. With few natural resources, the islands are heavily dependent on imports, foreign remittances and still to some extent on foreign aid. The reduction in the latter has heightened the focus on the importance of tourism as an economic driver and visitor numbers continue to rise. Year-round sunshine makes Cape Verde a particularly appealing destination. The archipelago is diverse, particularly in terms of its tourist infrastructure. Sal and Boavista, the oldest of these volcanic islands are flat with white-sand beaches that rival anything in the world. Consequently, they attract 95% of Cape Verde´s visitors, leaving the other seven inhabited islands undeveloped. Hikers and those curious to discover something authentic are drawn to them, spending their time walking amongst the jaw-dropping mountainous landscapes of Fogo or Santo Antão, taking some true time-out in tiny Brava or mellow Maio or enjoying the cultural fusion of African, Portuguese and Brazilian influences in the cities of Praia and Mindelo. The adventurous will find adrenalin rushing as they profit from windsurfing and kitesurfing opportunities, fuelled by strong breezes and Atlantic waves, while for culture, Mindelo is the attraction with a constant backdrop of seductive music, the thread which ties together the islands scattered across the mid-Atlantic.
The word ´´spirituality´´ is brandished about today as almost a surrogate word for God. Instead of saying you believe in whatever religion you do, it´s almost the ´´in thing´´ to say you are spiritual and believe in the Universe (whatever that means). The Universe exists whether you believe in it or not. Even the dictionay definition of the word spirituality is somewhat vague in that it can mean a lot of different things, even if pertaining to the same thing. Ask most people what spirituality means and they start with ´´err´´ or ´´Well it´s a....´´ etc. They don´t know; they only have a general idea. This download aims to put out a more comprehensive understanding of what spirituality means and why we should be a little more cautious about those who call themselves spitritual - because they may not be as stable as we think. It´s an interesting download and places what many think into context with a better understanding and accurate assessment in relation to their own thoughts. 1. Language: English. Love is the essential ingredient in life that makes it worth living, it seeps into every corner of our lives, and where love is - evil isn´t. Where love has the upper hand devious and cruel existences can´t survive. You can see that the societies that have ´´love´´ within them prosper and create whereas those that have conditional love have unjust and repressive societies that control and kill and are barbaric in nature. Love allows us to be happy, be comfortable, to prosper not only in wealth but the quality of our lives and our health. Love nurtures and cares and gives unlimited options to move forward without hindrance. Love is stable, families with religious and strong cultural aspects are forever living to dictated rules that cause much upset and guilt and are not love based, only going through the motions, which is false in itself. An interesting audio download that places a strong emphasis on love, and offer the opportunities to think of ´´the love walk´´ to enhance your own life.... 1. Language: English. The romance novel has the strange distinction of being the most popular but least respected of literary genres. While it remains consistently dominant in bookstores and on best-seller lists, it is also widely dismissed by the critical community. Scholars have alleged that romance novels help create subservient readers, who are largely women, by confining heroines to stories that ignore issues other than love and marriage.Pamela Regis argues that such critical studies fail to take into consideration the personal choice of readers, offer any true definition of the romance novel, or discuss the nature and scope of the genre. Presenting the counterclaim that the romance novel does not enslave women but, on the contrary, is about celebrating freedom and joy, Regis offers a definition that provides critics with an expanded vocabulary for discussing a genre that is both classic and contemporary, sexy and entertaining. Taking the stance that the popular romance novel is a work of literature with a brilliant pedigree, Regis asserts that it is also a very old, stable form. She traces the literary history of the romance novel from canonical works such as Richardson´s Pamela through Austen´s Pride and Prejudice,Brontë´s Jane Eyre, and E. M. Hull´s The Sheik, and then turns to more contemporary works such as the novels of Georgette Heyer, Mary Stewart, Janet Dailey, Jayne Ann Krentz, and Nora Roberts. The book is published by University of Pennsylvania Press. 1.
