´´Jean-Paul Sartre had eyes that looked in different directions, so you never really knew in which direction he was philosophising.´´ This book is about nothing. In mathematics there´s only one way for nothing to exist, but there are an infinite number of ways for there to be something. So ´´something´´ is therefore more stable than ´´nothing´´. Which means that the more cluttered the universe is, the more stable it becomes. Does this mean that clutter is good? Brian Luff sets out to prove that it does. Along the way he walks us through a card-carrying Philistine´s view of Western philosophy. There´ll also be football, Internet dating, yoghurt-making, and hundreds of bags of low fat cheese puffs. Plus, how do you play the game of Pogs, and what constitutes the perfect piece of toast? If all this sounds a bit complicated, don´t worry, he dumbs it down quite a lot. Cheesy Wotsits and the History of Western Philosophy will change your life for at least 10 minutes. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Brian Luff. The second book in the Fluorescence series. A riveting paranormal romance, the Fluorescence series is engaging and unabashed - a coming-of-age urban fantasy unlike any other. The fire has been started and things have changed for the Fluorescent Ones. Brian is fighting to keep the seams of a once stable life from unraveling as a massive turn of events thrusts him into chaos. The Saviors had a terrible secret in store, and now he and the others must make decisions that will impact their future forever. In a unique genre all its own, Fluorescence is a striking blend of audacious young love and urban sci-fi. Each full-length novel in the series is narrated by a different character, driving the story forward in a new and exciting way. It evolves from a quiet beginning into a gripping saga exploring the real-life limitations encountered while harboring a volatile secret. 1. Language: English. Narrator: P. Anastasia. The Beatles´ third tour of North America was nearly a year in the planning. By late 1964, manager Brian Epstein knew that they were not only the biggest act in his stable: they had become the biggest act on earth. America worshipped them. Somewhere different for the start of this tour, in New York - somewhere appropriately massive - had to be found. It was: a baseball stadium in Flushing, Queens. On August 15, 1965, The Beatles played the concert of their lives there. This is that story. Here also are the huge strides in writing, musicianship, and recording the group made in the 12 months or so leading up to Shea Stadium. Some of this was played at the gig but little above the screams was heard. The Beatles at Shea 50 years ago remains, nonetheless, a watershed 1960s moment: the climax in the live career of the greatest quartet the world has known. 1. Language: English. Darsteller:Anne Judson-Yager, Bree Turner, Faune A. All Ellie wants is to have a normal life. She pictures a white picket fence, a stable and loyal husband, and eventually a couple of kids. She doesn’t date just anybody. She has relationships with guys like Ward Cleaver. Her best friend Spencer, on the other hand, is famous for being quite the opposite. That’s why they’ll always be ´´just friends´´. But maybe when it comes to love, what looks good on paper just isn´t good enough.... Spencer knows what Ellie wants for herself. In fact, he thinks she deserves every bit of it. She sure as hell deserves more than what he can offer her. But as he gets ready to leave for Marine Corps Recruit Training, he starts to think about exactly what he’ll be leaving behind. As the weeks of training drag on, he can´t help but think that if it weren´t for the shadows of his past, he would make her his future. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Brian Skiba, Laurie Love. This book explores community dynamics within social media. Using Wikipedia as an example, the volume explores communities that rely upon commons-based peer production. Fundamental theoretical principles spanning such domains as organizational configurations, leadership roles, and social evolutionary theory are developed. In the context of Wikipedia, these theories explain how a functional elite of highly productive editors has emerged and why they are responsible for a majority of the content. It explains how the elite shapes the project and how this group tends to become stable and increasingly influential over time. Wikipedia has developed a new and resilient social hierarchy, an adhocracy, which combines features of traditional and new, online, social organizations. The book presents a set of practical approaches for using these theories in real-world practice. This work fundamentally changes the way we think about social media leadership and evolution, emphasizing the crucial contributions of leadership, of elite social roles, and of group global structure to the overall success and stability of large social media projects. Written in an accessible and direct style, the book will be of interest to academics as well as professionals with an interest in social media and commons-based peer production processes. Sorin Adam Matei, Professor, Brian Lamb School of Communication, Purdue University, Director of the Data Storytelling Network, Purdue University.
